Mountain Bike race at Berlin High

Wednesday was a hard race for the team, but I’m proud of their effort. I had to be more psychologist and less coach. Two of our riders got knocked out of the race early with injuries. One highlight was Ryan Crilly (7th grade) made his racing debut and was in 3rd after the 1st lap, but he couldn’t hold on to that lead to the end. I think our boys had a good race overall.

I asked each rider on the team to name one good thing that happened during the race and one thing they wanted to improve. Some of the good things were having a fast start, riding the entire course without getting off the bike, and riding through tight turns with speed. They all realize that stamina is one thing they need to work on, and maintaining their focus so they don’t make mistakes. After 2 races, they are already showing a lot of growth.

Thanks to Chris Baker for being my assistant coach for the day. Shouts to Dulcey and some of our parents for coming out to support the team. See you at the races!

The next two races will be down at the West Rock Nature Center in Hamden/New Haven. 1180 Wintergreen Ave, Hamden. Wednesday the 16th will have a few of our team members racing against a larger field of riders from around the state. That race starts at 5:15. The following week on Wednesday the 23rd, it will be the same venue, but it will be our regular middle school series, so that race will start at 4:15. See me for details and questions. Thanks for your support.

Mountain Bike Team Results

The Moran Mountain Bike Team competed in their first race on Wednesday at Clark Lane Middle School in Waterford. 5 out of 6 of our riders raced against 3 other schools who had much larger teams, and they did well. Official results have not been posted, but most of the team was able to complete 2 laps around the course, within the 20 minute time limit. They had a blast. There was a lot of mud, a little bit of blood, but no tears, so it was a huge success!

Next race will be Wednesday at Berlin High at 4:15. Come out and support us. Races only last 20 minutes (our bus dismissal lasts longer than that!) I know the riders would appreciate your support.
