Summer Engineering & Science Academy

Feb. 2, 2016
Dear Administrator:
Hamden Hall Country Day School is once again offering its popular Summer Engineering & Science Academy to students entering grades five, six, seven and eight who enjoy challenging themselves with hands-on activities in the fields of engineering, science, technology and mathematics.
Experiential learning is at the nucleus of this fully funded, week-long enrichment program, which is scheduled for July 11-15. Students perform lab work and collaborate in groups to fully explore and make discoveries in the areas of DNA technology, computer game design, probability, chemistry and more.
Please consider notifying students and their parents/guardians of this opportunity – application deadline is May 13 and space is limited. I have enclosed several application packets with cover letters for you to distribute. Forms can also be downloaded from Hamden Hall’s website at hamdenhall.org.
Morning and afternoon research sessions are conducted at premier facilities on campus, such as the Schiavone Science Center and the school’s state-of-the-art technology center, all of which thrust students into an environment conducive to inspiration, curiosity and creativity.
Students work with members of Hamden Hall’s prestigious faculty, whose passion for their discipline translates into a dynamic approach to instruction and lifelong learning. Stimulating project-based discovery yields from such areas as bridge building using Google SketchUp, microbiology, computer programming via Scratch, geometry, physics and more.
The Academy begins each day at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. At 11 a.m., students are transported to Hamden Hall’s Skiff Street Athletic Complex for an open swim session at the Beckerman Athletic Center followed by lunch. Space is limited and is based on an application process.
Please contact me with any questions and thank you in advance for helping spread the word about this exciting educational opportunity.
Best Regards,
Dawn A. Miceli

Girls Softball Results

Our Lady Mustang bats woke up with a fury pounding out 15 hits including 5 doubles and a triple in an exciting 8-1 victory yesterday against Washington Middle School of Meriden for their first win of the season. Nicole Dorsey (single and a double),Te’a (Taya) Martin (2 singles, double and a walk), Mia Ferry (single, double, triple and a walk), Alexandra Tenero (single and a double) Sammi Fers (3 singles) and Ryen Wolcheski (single and a double).

Pitching kept Washington off balance with Mia Ferry throwing a one hittler, striking out 7 and giving up an unearned run. Alexandra Tenero came in and gave up 1 hit and a strikeout in the 7th.

In that 7th inning, Moran turned another double play. After a single and stolen base, the Washington catcher blasted a shot to deep left field. Sixth grader, Jenna Cyr tracked the ball down and calmly doubled the runner off of second to end any chance of a come back….great job Jenna and the rest of the Lady Mustangs.

The first home game is Friday….don’t forget.

Girls Softball

The Lady Mustangs took on an extremely quick DePaolo Team at Southington yesterday and again the bats were fairly quiet until the top of the 7th when Tri Captain Sammi Fers hit her first triple of the year driving in 2. Before the triple, 3 eighth graders singled Nicole Dorsey, Te’a (Taya) Martin and starting pitcher Mia Ferry as well as another double and RBI by first baseman Caitlyn Hunt. It was Martins second hit of the game.

Earlier in the game, Bella Blasi playing a deep center field doubled up a speedy DePaolo player with a great catch in the wind and a perfect throw to Hunt.

Blasi and Fers also singled in the game.

Moran is away on Monday but…..will be home next Friday for our home opener vs DePaolo.

Boys Baseball Results

In a tough loss, Moran fell to DePaolo. Moran struggled as a team to produce runs and errors continued to hinder their overall performance. Billy Gorry and Nate DeMaio produce singles for the Moran offense while Jordan Davis tried to keep Moran in the game with his outstanding defensive plays. MORAN travels to Meriden on Monday hoping to rebound from today.
