CHET Dream Big! College Savings Competition for K-8 Grade Students

Dear Connecticut Superintendent,

I am writing to let you know about the 2015 CHET Dream Big!competition, which you may have read about recently in the CAPSS Superintendent News, and to ask for your help in spreading the word about the opportunity to participate to your schools, students and families.

The 2015 CHET Dream Big! competition invites students in grades K-8 to enter a drawing or essay, based on their grade level, to win one of 84 Connecticut Higher Education Trust’s (CHET), college savings plan accounts. This year, CHET Dream Big! will award four grand prizes worth $1,000 each and 80 prizes worth $500 each. The school that submits the highest number of entries on behalf of students in each county will win $500.

Dream Big! is sponsored by State Treasurer Denise Nappier, as CHET’s Trustee, and TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc. to encourage children and their families to talk about and save for their future. Studies show children who know their parents or guardians have a college savings account are almost seven times more likely to attend college than children without an account. And even modest savings can increase the likelihood that a child will go to college.

Elementary and middle schools in your district already received a starter kit of program materials and additional free materials can be ordered or printed at www.chetdreambig.com. A Spanish entry form is also now available online. All entries must be postmarked by March 27, 2015 and received by March 31, 2015 and there is no cost to enter and no future investment requirements.

On behalf of the CHET Dream Big! competition, I look forward to seeing entries from schools and students in your district this year.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Beyus

2015 Dream Big! Program Coordinator
